CLASS DESCRIPTION

A fun creative workshop in which we will be experimenting with a number of different casting techniques. Cuttlefish casting Broomstick/straw casting Salt casting Water Casting Lentil Casting CUTTLEFISH BONE CASTING Learn how to carve cuttlefish bone and cast molten metal directly into the cuttlefish. Students can bring their own silver scraps ( sterling or fine ) milled silver or even silver metal clay. What a perfect way to recylce all those offcuts, scraps or even pieces you don't like! Melt them down and create a new piece of jewellery. BROOM CASTING Learn how to cast directly into a millet or straw broom. Prepare your broomstick ( no flying lessons included) for casting, learn how to melt your metal. Students can once again bring their own silver scraps, metal clay, old jewellery to melt down and use to cast with. More recycling! There will also be plenty of pewter on hand to experiment and practice your techniques before moving to silver.

SKILL PREREQUISITE

There are no prerequisite skills required for this class, it is open to all.

GENERAL INFORMATION

WH&S protocols at SJS require all students to wear CLOSED shoes and for long hair to be tied back. We recommend wearing glasses, not contact lenses, during classes and minimal jewellery because of a studio environment.
