CLASS DESCRIPTION

Precious Precision,

As a continuation of the former Mokume Gane class run by Daniel Cap, it seemed only natural to show ring making using the ancient technique of mokume gane. This method of manufacture will separate your skill from many, because it’s not something that can be printed or cast, it must be handmade, hence the name Precious Precision. You won’t need exceptional jewellery making skills, just a basic course and the first patternmaking mokume gane course under your belt.

Precious Precision is class is designed to show individuals how to use mokume gane in a controlled fashion. Students can expect to learn the mathematics to pattern prediction, joining, and fabrication, and applying the skills taught to make a beautiful new ring.

Day 1 will be spent creating the ring and a pattern
Day 2 Creating a sterling silver sleeve for ring so that it can be worn

SKILL PREREQUISITE

This is not a workshop for beginners, students must have completed Metalwork 101 and be proficient in Soldering, sawing, filing and Drilling.

ESSENTIAL TECHNIQUES COVERED

*mokume gane is an ancient Japanese technique of fusing two or more layers of metal together to form a laminate. The laminate is then put through a process to create unique and beautiful patterns in sheet metal, or rings.
