CLASS DESCRIPTION

This is brand new workshop that we are offering over 6 weeks.

There are so many techniques in which you can use wax to be cast.

We will cover, sculpting, carving, pouring, dripping, moulds and finishing.

Using different forms of wax we will experiment and create our pieces for lost wax casting.

Waxes will be sent away to be cast in whatever metal you would like. There will be additional cost for each casting you have done.

SKILL PREREQUISITE

There are no prerequisite skills required for this class, it is open to all.

ESSENTIAL TECHNIQUES COVERED

* Learn to carve and prepare waxes to be cast into metal

* Transfer your design onto the wax and carve out the design

* Learn the techniques involved to finish your wax to get a clean casting

* Loan of a metalwork tool kit is available during the class

* All other materials required for the class such as wax

WHAT TO BRING AND MATERIAL FEE

* There is a $30 materials fee payable on first day.
* Casting fees and metal costs are not included in the cost of the workshop

GENERAL INFORMATION

WH&S protocols at SJS require all students to wear CLOSED shoes and for long hair to be tied back. We recommend wearing glasses, not contact lenses during classes and minimal jewellery because of working in a studio environment.
