CLASS DESCRIPTION

Daniel Cap, a leading specialist in the creation of mokume gane art form. He will be showing pattern making in his two day course 'Metal Musing'. This ancient art is rarely taught, but throuh Metal musing, students will begin learn how to control fused layers of non-ferrous metal. It will involve cutting, sawing, grinding, hammering, and most of all, Musing about what patterns in the metal they want to create.

From the beauty of ancient sword and vessel work, all the way to the modern era, mokume gane still holds a place in art and culture. Come an enjoy the new Metal Musing course, so you can learn the old and traditional art of patterning mokume Gane.

This workshop is a fundamentals in Mokume gane pattern making. We will be working with prefused billet sheet and creating the patterns yourself. Ring making will not be covered in this workshop but will be offered at a later date, this class being a prerequisite for the ring making mokume Gane.

SKILL PREREQUISITE

This is not a workshop for beginners, students must have completed Metalwork 101 and be proficient in Soldering, sawing, filing and Drilling.

ESSENTIAL TECHNIQUES COVERED

*mokume gane is an ancient Japanese technique of fusing two or more layers of metal together to form a laminate. The laminate is then put through a process to create unique and beautiful patterns in sheet metal, or rings.
