Join Sue Fisher for a one day workshop on Polymer Clay Surface Design Techniques.

Learn how to use a variety of materials to decorate and embellish polymer clay surfaces, then combine them to make jewellery that reflects your personal style. The options for surface design techniques are almost limitless in polymer clay. Transferring photos, images, stenciling, silkscreens and much more. Sue will take you through many of these techniques during the day which will allow greater diversity and expression when working with polymer clay in the future. 

SKILL PREREQUISITE

Whilst no prior experience is necessary for this class, we do recommend a minimum of Polymer Clay Fundamentals if possible to enhance your learning experience.

ESSENTIAL TECHNIQUES COVERED

* Image transfers from laser printed, inkjet printed and commercially printed source material

* Crackle effects using a variety of techniques

* Metal leaf and metal foil

* Stencils and silkscreens/screenprinting

* Backfilled, lowlighted and highlighted textures

* Construction approaches for cured and uncured clay

* Finishing decorated surfaces to protect your designs

WHAT TO BRING AND MATERIAL FEE

 A MATERIALS FEE of $10 is payable to your teacher on the day. Cash only and correct change please.

PLEASE BRING;

* A few laser printed (toner‑based) images that you would like to transfer to polymer clay. The transferred images will be mirror images of how they look on paper, so use a graphics program to reverse any that contain items that must appear the right way around (e.g. text). A variety of suitable images will also be provided at the workshop.

* A few commercially printed paper samples that you would like to transfer to polymer clay. Examples of suitable materials include magazine pages, wrapping paper, scrapbooking paper and comic book pages. Please be aware that the paper will be destroyed during the image transfer process so do not bring anything important! A variety of suitable papers will also be provided at the workshop.

* Your own polymer clay tool kit & pasta machine  (if you have them)

GENERAL INFORMATION

* Additional clay, tools and equipment will be available on the day for purchase from the studio.

* You are welcome to bring your own pasta machine and polymer clay toolkit if you have these and would like to use them instead of the loan equipment.

* OH&S protocols at SJS require all students to wear closed in shoes, long hair to be tied back. We recommend that glasses be worn instead of contact lenses and minimal jewellery be worn in a studio environment.
