CLASS DESCRIPTION

Over a period of 2 Saturdays you will learn & explore the intricate and romantic medium of porcelain with Jan Rietdyk.  Although considered delicate, Porcelain lends itself to stunning jewellery pieces when designed and assembled with knowledge and consideration.

With the unmistakable identity of translucent white and stone like texture, it’s earthy and ancient properties are hard to duplicate in any other medium. Whether your taste is fine, delicate detail or bold, bohemian statement pieces, Porcelain’s diverse nature is captivating and unique.

Along with rings and earrings, Jan has been making porcelain bangles for many years and generously shares her expertise with you. The outcome will be acquiring the skill to professionally finish porcelain jewellery along with a wealth of information to continue on your creative journey.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Please note that your ceramic pieces will not be finished for collection on the last day of the class as they will need to be glaze fired. You can arrange to pick them up from the studio  3 days after the last class day or we can post them to you for an additional fee of $17 which includes bubble wrap to secure them in transit. SJS offers a kiln firing service - for details please see our services for more information including pricing.

OH&S protocols at SJS require all students to wear CLOSED shoes, and for long hair to be tied back.  We recommend that glasses are worn instead of contact lenses and minimal jewellery because of a studio environment.
