CLASS DESCRIPTION

Metal clay is a revolutionary product which comes in a clay form, it can easily be manipulated and following firing, the clay fuses and becomes solid metal. This workshop will introduce you to the beauty of working with this wonderful medium as you learn to make Fine Silver - .999 jewellery.

During the day you will be introduced to the basics of working with precious metal clay by learning how to work with it in a controlled and time sensitive environment. Your items will then be kiln fired, however you will be given a demonstration on how to hand torch fire so that you can easily continue working at home.

SKILL PREREQUISITE

No experience necessary, open to all.

ESSENTIAL TECHNIQUES COVERED

* working with the clay and it's special properties.

* rolling, cutting, texturing and forming the clay

* sanding and refining

* drilling the clay prior to firing

* demonstration on hand firing

* correct polishing and finishing

GENERAL INFORMATION

OH&S protocols at SJS require all students to wear CLOSED IN shoes, long hair should be tied back.  We recommend wearing glasses instead of contact lenses and wearing minimal jewellery when working in a studio environment.
