HAYDEN YOULLEY
I studied a Bachelor of Design at COFA (College Of Fine Arts) which gave me the opportunity to experiment with various design disciplines and introduced me to ceramics.
During my studies I developed proficiency in hand building, slab building, coil building, wheel throwing and mould making. Skills which have been developed and enhanced further with each project and each exhibition.
Curiosity and passion led me overseas to the University of Illinois, where I was able to extend my knowledge of design and ceramics further.
For me, the process of designing, prototyping and producing ceramics, both sculptural and functional, involves the right mix of instant satisfaction, challenge, surprise, problem solving and beauty. It keeps me interested in exploring all its possibilities.
That’s the fanciest way I have found to say that it is a really fun and rewarding way to get your hands dirty and create with mud all day.
Based in my studio in Sydney, I am currently working on lighting, tableware and ornamental designs both in my own practice and in collaboration with upcoming and established designers and craftspeople.
I have been featured in a number of publications including, Inside Out, Home Beautiful, House and Garden, and The Sydney Morning Herald
