CLASS DESCRIPTION

THIS CLASS WILL BE HELD AT SJS NEW PREMISES IN PARAMATTA.

LOCATION IS WITHIN EASY WALKING DISTANCE OF THE RAILWAY STATION.

Metal clay is a revolutionary product which comes in a clay form, it can easily be manipulated and following firing, the clay fuses and becomes solid metal. This short three hour introduction workshop will introduce you to the beauty of working with this wonderful medium as you learn to make Fine Silver - .999 jewellery.

During the evening you will be introduced to the basics of working with precious metal clay by learning how to work with it in a controlled and time sensitive environment. Your items will then be kiln fired, however you will be given a demonstration on how to hand torch fire so that you can easily continue working at home.

Your class includes product to the value of $50 and you will have the opportunity to purchase additional clay or upgrade your packet to a larger amount should you so wish. The clay provided will allow you to create several pairs of earrings or pendants over the three hour period.

SKILL PREREQUISITE

No experience necessary, open to all.

* working with the clay and it's special properties.

* rolling, cutting, texturing and forming the clay

* sanding and refining

* drilling the clay prior to firing

* demonstration on hand firing

* correct polishing and finishing

GENERAL INFORMATION

OH&S protocols at SJS require all students to wear CLOSED IN shoes, long hair should be tied back.  We recommend wearing glasses instead of contact lenses and wearing minimal jewellery when working in a studio environment.
